40 Before 40

A new decade, a new fun and goal-setting bucket list. I came up with a "30 Before 30" list back in 2017, and even though I didn't quite scratch off *every* item on my want-to-do list, I feel like I accomplished a lot more by having some milestones to hit before I turned the page to my 30s. Now, I'm inching my way towards 40 years old (March 2027!) and I'd love to set some goals again, this time with a bit more run-up to the landmark birthday. So here we go! 40 things I'd love to do before I turn 40:

1. Hit 1,000 rides on my Peloton.
2. Complete the full first draft of my memoir about my dad.
3. Apply to grad school.
4. Find somewhere I can volunteer my time for a good cause regularly in Seattle.
5. Record a full-length album with my band.
6. Visit the San Juan Islands.
7. Get my nose pierced.
8. Figure out a way to practice drums that works for me.
9. Get more ear piercings.
10. Get my hands tattooed.
11. Put on a musical showcase in Seattle.
12. Learn to play bass.
13. Build a go-bag.
14. Make a zine!
15. Try out rollerskating.
16. Make a journey-to-40 playlist.
17. Read one poem a day in 2026.
18. Figure out a way to budget that works for me.
19. Pick a month to do a digital detox — no internet outside of work!
20. Take piano lessons.
21. Play a music festival.
22. Sew my own hoodie dress.
23. Sew a t-shirt quilt.
24. Research my genealogy (without Ancestry dot com).
25. Memorize a fiddle song.
26. Sew patches onto a jacket.
27. Learn to darn a hole.
28. Celebrate 8 Pagan holidays in 2026.
29. Take Ziggy to an agility course.
30. Fill out one (1) of the zillions of journals I have lying around.
31. Throw a Theme Party.
32. Fix my record player/speakers.
33. Figure out 2-3 new "go to" meals to cook.
34. Clean out my email "flagged" folder 😩
35. Plant *some*thing, anything, outside.
36. Book a photo shoot for myself.
37. Perform a mindful clean-out of stuff — clothes, dishes, books, accessories, etc. — for donation, recycling, etc.
38. Put together all of the puzzles you own.
39. Read 40 books you've never read.
40. Plan something special for your 40th!
